Large Family Tents – How To Pick The Perfect Tent?
Camping is one of the greatest out door activities a family can enjoy. It’s just fun for everyone. Going out into nature is also very healthy for kids and can help them see the world in a different perspective.
But no matter how great it can be, camping can ofter turn into a big problem when there is limited space for a large group. A small tent only accommodate so many people and there isn’t really any feeling of get together if your family is divided into many tents. Besides, if it’s raining, where do you “hang out”? Yes, having a small tent means that your family will not enjoy camping to its fullest. This is why you should take a serious look at large family tents.
Here is a word of warning; don’t just go out and buy whatever big tent you can find at a very low price. Keep in mind that this is your shelter. Of course I hope that you will never face terrible weather and strong winds, but if you do, I can promise you you’ll be happy that you bought a quality tent that you pitched perfectly. The cheap ones don’t stand a chance against strong winds and heavy raining. Most likely the tent will be the most expensive equipment you will purchase for camping so choose carefully.
The most popular tent is the classic dome tent. It’s a very stable tent and easy to put up but they are usally not that large and almost always only consist of one big room which means less, or should I say, no privacy for anyone. So if you do go for a dome tent make sure it’s one of those large family tents with with multi-room. You should look closely at how it’s designed to make sure it won’t blow over and make sure your tent is well water proof. It’s actually a very good idea to spray the outside of the tent with some waterproofing spray. That will ensure extra protection and in case of heavy raining, less change of the water seeping through. Oh, and make sure you put the tent up at least once in your garden before you go out camping. It’s no fund finding out in the middle of nowhere that something is missing from the package or that it’s broken. You should also make sure that any tent you consider has a rain fly to prevent water from entering through the top, windows or doors.
As much as I like the large family tents, it might not be the smartest choice if you are going to be camping in very cold weather. You see, the body heat helps to keep the area ward but you and your family can only warm so much cold air. So the larger the tent, the more difficult to warm it up.
My personal favorite are the family cabin tents. They come in all sizes and shapes and are the best option to ensure maximum privacy for everyone. I know that camping is not about being left alone but there are always these moments where you feel the need for a nap or some private time with your thoughts. At those times some personal space will make the world of difference. I also have a small tip for you if you browse the family cabin tents. If you need a tent with 3 rooms, then get a tent with 4 rooms. Let me explain, if you have one extra room it means that you have a place where everyone can get together without being in someones private area. It will also make it easier to keep everything in place and will ensure less tensions and more peace. Of course, if you have a really large family and expect to have guest visiting the camping site, you should consider a 10 person tent. Few of the major tent manufacturer now have these available in most stores and I hear there is even a 12 person tent available now. How crazy is that!
Finally just thank about what kind of comfort you and your family want when camping. Take that into consideration among with the average length of camping trips, how long you will stay in each place (if you travel), what kind of weather conditions can be expects and finally how many people will be travelling and don’t forget to count the pets if any. Browsing all these large family tents isn’t easy with all these different things to consider but the joy of camping will make it all worth while. I’m sure you’ll find the best family tent for your family. Have great fun!
